Our client, a leading firearms accessories and outdoor lifestyle company is seeking a forward-thinking Product Designer to join their growing team in the Denver, CO. area.





Job Description:

The Product Designer II is an integral member of our fast-paced design team devoted to bringing new products to market within the company’s growing portfolio of innovative consumer products. Assigned projects require a comprehensive knowledge and application of product design and development utilizing sketches and renderings, along with fully realizing concepts through CAD modeling, prototyping, and iteration. A demonstrated understanding of industrial design fundamentals, product development, and collaboration skills are must-haves. The Product Designer II has a strong aptitude for mechanical system design, promotes agility and flexibility in the design phase, and is a champion for products which align to company values and integrity.


Activities and deliverables for this position include but are not limited to conceptualization of designs based on product definition worksheets, testing of preliminary prototypes to validate initial design concepts, design of final manufacturable product revisions, identification and resolution of design problems, verification of final production design against performance requirements, creation of technical documentation to communicate design intent, and participation in continuous improvement initiatives of the design process. Additionally, the Product Designer II I is passionate about consumer and outdoor product categories, researches and understands the market / business need of each project and makes value-add decisions to ensure program success.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop products from design concept, to prototype, to manufacturable article through sketching, CAD modeling, and 3D printing
  • Work within design and project teams to fulfill the product’s mission objectives
  • Support Project Engineering to validate design functionality, ensure manufacturability and ease of production, maintain cost target viability, and develop Bills of Materials (BOM)
  • Maintain familiar brand identity through adherence to established design principles, and common design aesthetics and language
  • Organize and participate in design critiques, and interpret feedback into useful design changes
  • Help guide ideation, research and development, and other blue-sky initiatives in the product design group
  • Assist project team stakeholders in the planning, scheduling, and tracking of project milestones and deliverables
  • Interface with Tooling Engineering to evaluate part designs and implement feedback
  • Execute design changes against Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Collaborate with design and project teams to evaluate and correct the path of troubled projects during the design phase, and aid in minimizing project disruptions / steering to successful completion
  • Evaluate past project performance with respect to the design process and help continuously optimize the process for efficiency
  • Identify relevant training and asset needs and providers based on design group objectives, including evaluating the team’s and its members’ abilities and readiness
  • Assist less experienced product designers and product design interns in understanding the brand’s aesthetic design style, creative / design principles, and modeling best practices


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the identification and ideation of new product categories and subsequent products within specified categories
  • Assist in the review and vetting of product designer applicants to ensure continuity in the group
  • Maintain familiar brand identity through design aesthetics
  • Assist in selecting materials, colors, and surface finishes
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods while working on a computer
  • Travel up to 10%; both international and domestic
  • Other duties as assigned




  • BS/MS Degree in Industrial Design, or Engineering with Product Design focus (may be offset by relevant experience)
  • 5 to 10 years of proven experience in Industrial Design, with extensive focus on durable / manufactured hard goods
  • Proficiency in 3-Dimensional CAD / parametric modeling (Solidworks 2019 or later preferred; including advanced surfacing, multi-body modeling, and complex assemblies)
  • 3 or more years’ experience with design of plastic injection molded components and features: tooling splits, draft, ribs, texture considerations, etc.
  • 1 or more years’ experience with design of machined, cast, extruded, and / or stamped components, assemblies, and systems
  • Familiarity with project and objective tracking and planning tools and methods
  • Strong experience with 3D printing technologies (part setup, operation, troubleshooting)
  • Intermediate experience with reverse engineering tools and methods
  • Qualified candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of their work upon request


Job Knowledge, Special Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to guide and mentor less-experienced designers of various backgrounds / personalities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude: capable of designing and / or prototyping energized latches, pivots and linkages, types of springs, etc.
  • Modelmaking & prototyping skills, including use of conventional shop / basic hand and power tools (manual lathe and milling machine setup and operation preferable)
  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles preferred
  • Familiarity with Process Improvement practices (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) preferred
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. (intermediate proficiency)
  • Keyshot photo rendering software (intermediate proficiency)
  • Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (intermediate proficiency)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communications and problem-solving skills



  • This position reports to the Product Design Manager
